A Day of Kindness and Community: Thank You for Making Our Backswing Golf Tournament a Success

boom backswing 2025 boom cares events Nov 06, 2025

What an incredible day! Yesterday’s Backswing Golf Tournament was everything we hoped it would be—sunshine, laughter, a few friendly competitive swings, and a whole lot of heart. It was a beautiful reminder of what happens when kindness, community, and purpose come together.

Thanks to all of you—our golfers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers—we raised $17,500 to help support students and families across McKinney and other Collin County ISDs. These funds will go toward scholarships, equipment and snacks for youth rec teams, and opportunities for students to attend trade schools, athletic camps, and other enrichment programs.

We were truly moved by Serenity High graduate, Josh Keith, who shared his story with courage and grace, and by Vice Principal, Allie Long, who continues to be a steady voice of hope and compassion for students in our community. Mr. Harvey Oaxaca, Vice President of the McKinney ISD Board, gave us a warm welcome that grounded the day in purpose—reminding us that every swing, every laugh, and every dollar raised was for something much bigger than golf.

A huge thank you to our wonderful host, The Courses at Watters Creek, and to our incredible event sponsors who made this tournament possible:

1st Klass Promotions, American National Bank of Texas, McCutchan Advisory Services, First United Bank, Roofing OnTop & Construction, KRP Financial, Redden Concrete, The Bou Family, Dazzle Events by Cynth, and RiskWell.

We’re so grateful for your belief in what we do and your commitment to helping families right here in our backyard.

And of course, the day wouldn’t have been the same without Fred and James from McKinney Podcast, who kept everyone smiling as our official “Hole Hecklers,” or Clark Cabus Photography, who beautifully captured every joyful moment on and off the course.

A special shoutout to Mr. Robert Lipscomb, whose wife met David and Josey through the McKinney Chamber back in 2015 and was one of the first to donate toys to our cause. All these years later, the Lipscomb family is still showing up, still supporting, and still helping kindness come full circle. That’s what the Boomerang spirit is all about.

This tournament has always been special because it’s not just about golf—it’s about connection. It’s about old high school friends coming together, community leaders giving back, students who’ve thrived through McKinney ISD programs, and new faces who want to make a difference. (And yes, the GTS Golf Cannon added a little extra excitement out there!)

To our volunteers—you’re the heartbeat of Boomerang Cares. Thank you for showing up early, staying late, and representing our mission with heart and humility. You remind us that compassion is something we build together, one act at a time.

As we close another wonderful tournament, we’re already looking ahead to our favorite time of year—our Annual Toy Drive, coming up in early December!

If you or someone you know—whether a business, church, or family—would like to host a toy collection box, please email [email protected] and we’ll send over all the details. Every toy collected helps bring joy to a local child and keeps the Boomerang Circle of Good in motion.

From all of us at Boomerang Cares—thank you for showing up, for believing in our mission, and for helping us create a Collin County where no family faces hardship alone. Together, we’re proving that kindness always finds its way back home.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Boomerang Cares Team
