Our Story

 An Act of Kindness

It all began with a compassionate heart and a simple act of kindness—giving toys to children who might otherwise miss out on the magic of the holidays.

Inspired by his own childhood, when generosity from his local church and the Salvation Army made a lasting difference, David Garcia felt called to pass that same joy forward.

What started as a small toy collection among friends helping three families, quickly grew. In 2015, the first toy drive was held at Mexi-Go restaurant in Plano, supporting three local families. By 2018, a generous $500 donation helped bring the mission to life and marked the beginning of something more.

Each year, the effort expanded, reaching more families and creating more moments that mattered.

Growing Into Something Greater

In 2021, that small toy drive evolved into a full-scale annual gala. With 80 attendees and a meaningful gift from then-Mayor George Fuller, the event became a turning point, expanding both reach and impact.

What began as a seasonal effort became a growing movement. One rooted in compassion, community, and a desire to show up when it matters most.

The Need We Serve

As the mission grew, so did the understanding of a deeper need.

There is a growing group of families who are working hard, doing everything right, yet one unexpected expense can quickly disrupt stability.

They may not qualify for traditional assistance. But they still need support to keep moving forward.

Boomerang Cares exists to serve this space, providing timely, short-term support that helps families stay on track and students stay connected to opportunities that shape their future.

How We Show Up

Today, Boomerang Cares is a year-round force for good across Collin County.

In close partnership with local ISDs, we step in during life’s most critical moments, offering thoughtful, practical support when it’s needed most.

Whether it's providing childcare so a parent can attend night classes and build a better future, helping a student access certification programs that lead directly to a career, or supporting transportation so a student can consistently attend school or training

We respond with care, urgency, and respect.

The Circle of Good

At the core of everything we do is a simple belief: When kindness is given with intention, it comes back stronger. We call this the Circle of Good.

When we support one student, we strengthen a family. When that family regains stability, they’re able to move forward, and often give back in their own way.

It’s kindness in motion, lifting individuals, strengthening communities, and returning good back into the world.
