About Boomerang Cares

Our Mission

Boomerang Cares provides timely support when a temporary setback threatens education, enrichment, and milestone moments for students and families across Collin County.

Boomerang Cares began with a simple act of kindness: collecting toys for children who might otherwise miss the joy of the holiday season.

Inspired by the generosity he experienced as a child through his local church and the Salvation Army, David Garcia, Jr felt called to carry that same kindness forward. What began as a small toy collection among friends grew into a local effort serving families in need. In 2015, the first toy drive was held at Mexi-Go restaurant in Plano, supporting three local families.

By 2018, a generous $500 donation helped bring the mission to life in a new way. Each year, the effort continued to grow, reaching more families and creating more moments that mattered.

How We Grew

In 2021, the toy drive evolved into a full-scale annual gala. With 80 attendees and a meaningful gift from then-Mayor George Fuller, the event became a turning point for Boomerang Cares.

What started as a seasonal act of generosity became a year-round movement rooted in compassion, community, and showing up when it matters most.

Why We Exist

Many families are working hard and doing everything they can, yet one unexpected expense can quickly disrupt stability. Some may not qualify for traditional assistance, but they still need support to keep moving forward.

Boomerang Cares exists to serve that space by providing short-term, practical support that helps families stay on track and students stay connected to opportunities that shape their future.

How We Show Up

Today, Boomerang Cares partners with local ISDs and community leaders to identify needs and respond with care, urgency, and respect.

Support may include emergency assistance, student opportunities, trade school pathways, transportation needs, childcare support, or other barriers that impact a family’s stability or a student’s future.

The Circle of Good

At the heart of Boomerang Cares is a simple belief: when kindness is given with intention, it comes back stronger.

We call this the Circle of Good.

When one student is supported, a family is strengthened. When a family regains stability, they are able to move forward. And often, that kindness returns to the community in a new way.

Boomerang Cares exists to keep that circle moving.
